Axiata Sustainability

People are our reason for existing and the driving force behind our continued evolution. But, beyond providing digital connectivity alone, our purpose of Advancing Asia commits us to playing a much larger and more meaningful role in society.

Our starting point for generating long-term social value is consistently delivering best-in-class digital experiences for our customers. We achieve this by fostering an inclusive and growth-centric environment for our international workforce and supplier base that enables us to attract, develop and retain top talent across our footprint countries.

Ultimately, operational excellence leads to economic benefits, which are shared with local communities through initiatives that deliver targeted impact and tangible outcomes in education, infrastructure, natural disaster preparedness and other key areas of impact, placing digital technology at the heart of societal advancement.

From our customers to our workforce, suppliers to local communities, we empower people to live their best lives both personally and professionally, aided by the transformative power of digital technology.

Our people are our greatest asset, and nurturing a high performance culture begins with recruiting, retaining and compensating our employees in a fair and equitable way.

With 12,683 employees across our companies, the management of our people is governed by Group policies and standards covering recruitment, performance management, working conditions, and compensation and benefits. These policies are localised at the OpCo level and fundamentally guided by the ethical principles enshrined in the Axiata Code of Conduct. In turn, the Code of Conduct adheres to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Core Labour Standards which include:

  • Freedom from forced labour
  • Freedom from child labour
  • Freedom from discrimination at work
  • Freedom to form and join a union, and to bargain collectively

To support the Code of Conduct, our Speak Up hotline facilitates the reporting of actual or suspected misconduct and illegal or unethical behaviour, and is available to all stakeholders of the Group.

Outlook

We will continue to implement fair employment and welfare practices as we strive towards being a top talent brand and an Asian Talent Factory, through our investment in our workforce.

Driving a Culture of Integrity

Our core values of UI.EP (Uncompromising Integrity, Exceptional Performance) demonstrate our commitment to upholding the highest standards of lawful and ethical conduct through honesty, fairness and accountability in all our dealings, always doing the right thing, and fulfilling promises made to earn the trust of our stakeholders.

These values are personified through five UI.EP behaviours that are ingrained across the Group.

Valuing Diversity and Inclusivity

A differentiated workforce composed of unique perspectives, backgrounds and life experiences facilitates collaboration and excellence. In creating such a culture, we have initiated programmes and specific processes that promote diversity and inclusivity in gender, age and skills. Furthermore, as part of our Code of Conduct, we embrace respect and consideration among all employees regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, language, cultural background, physical ability, religious belief and lifestyle choice.
