In the fast-moving digital world, continuous innovation is central to retaining our competitive advantage and achieving functional and operational excellence.
To this end, we have leveraged our Collective Brain, harnessing knowledge and best practices across the Group to centralise our procurement negotiations, harmonise Network and IT activities, and deliver cost savings of RM1.1 billion in 2021. Our efforts are underscored by our Digital Transformation Framework, which aims to enhance the digital transformation of our OpCos across five cores of digitisation.
Harnessing our regional footprint, our business gains stronger traction as we partner with global technology powerhouses and hyperscalers to provide digital solutions that meet with the digitalisation needs of society that is sustainable and accessible to all.
In 2021, we also announced the appointment of a new role – Group Chief Strategy & Technology Officer – bolstering leadership towards future-proofing our operations and becoming The Next Generation Digital Champion.

Digital transformation is supported by our Learn, Engage, Accelerate and Perform (LEAP) Programme, which aims to nurture a “digital-first” mindset shift, accelerate digital maturity across our OpCos and validate their progress, as well as drive intra- and inter-OpCo collaboration.
This is augmented by the LEAP NOW Programme, which invites OpCo teams to submit proposals for digitisation aligned with our five cores. In 2021, a total of 70 projects were submitted under the programme, with 90% leveraging more than one enabling technology levers.
The most common technology levers were Process Automation, API Business / API Management and Artificial Intelligence, while the top three business benefits unlocked by the projects submitted were Better Customer Experience, Improved Decision Making and Reduced Operating Costs.

Our material matters are determined through a bi-yearly process of materiality assessment, detailed below:
We review and update our material matters in response to changes in our business landscape, risk environment, internal policies, KPIs, emerging local and global sustainability trends, regulatory developments and stakeholder opinions. Our review also incorporates peer benchmarking.
We conducted a structured stakeholder prioritisation exercise by leveraging insights from our dialogue with various stakeholders on our material matters. This allows us to identify the influence and dependence of key stakeholders on the Group. We then engage with the prioritised stakeholders to obtain their feedback on material matters.
Upon identification of our material matters, we conducted workshops within the Group to further prioritise materiality matters from the business perspective.
