Network Quality & Connectivity

Advancing Digital Societies

NETWORK QUALITY AND CONNECTIVITY

Providing reliable, affordable and resilient connectivity is at the heart of our proposition as a business and is the basis upon which we can create greater impact through our digital solutions and ESG initiatives.

Through our Network Transformation Programme and future network strategy, we are pioneering sectoral technological advancements like 5G while driving network cost optimisation across our footprint. We are equally focused on expanding connectivity and improving network quality in remote, rural areas.

Outlook

Axiata will continue to migrate to cloud infrastructure, to be deployed in the network based on the requirements and terms of retail and enterprise applications. Cloud-based infrastructure network and 5G standalone (SA) allow greater exploration of new engagement models in network, IT and finance, eventually optimising existing assets, improving customer experience and achieving cost and operational excellence. This also enables us to securely meet growing data demands.

Our Network Coverage

We have an extensive network coverage across our operating markets, supporting our Telco-TechCo journey and our vision of becoming The Next Generation Digital Champion.

Network Coverage, Digitisation, Automation And Smart Innovations

In our steadfast commitment to enhancing digital services and connectivity throughout the ASEAN and the South Asia region, we have implemented a wide spectrum of initiatives at both Group and OpCo level to improve network coverage and deliver exceptional customer experiences.

  • Collaborated with Huawei on Private 5G Network projects
  • In 2022, partnered with Huawei on the Green 5G Catalyst Network, which explores the use of autonomous networks and energy-efficient technologies for environmentally friendly 5G
  • Emphasised convergence, resulting in an additional 235,000 Fibre to the Home (FTTH) subscribers connected and expanded coverage in 86 cities
  • Continued its rural connectivity programme in collaboration with BAKTI
  • Launched Project Resilience to simplify, transform and optimise its network and ensure connectivity during Sri Lanka’s fuel hike in 2022
  • Completely shut down its 3G network in November 2023, re-allocating the spectrum used to enhance 4G-MBB and improve user throughput and experience
  • Successfully trialled Voice over New Radio (VoNR) 5G services for the first time in Sri Lanka during 2023
  • Collaborated with the Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia to enhance quality of service and improve coverage
  • Became the first mobile network operator in Cambodia and the region to adopt GigaGreen technology, which enhances service quality and provides a better end-user experience within the same infrastructure footprint, thus promoting environmental friendliness
  • Continues to improve connectivity and reduce the digital divide by connecting the unconnected with high-speed 4G and 4.5G connectivity
  • Collaborated with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) to achieve 80% 5G coverage in populated areas of Malaysia and delivered 1,826 tenancies to DNB to enhance community access to digital services
  • Handed over 174 JENDELA infrastructure to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and state governments in deploying cost-effective solutions that support the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDigital)
  • Fiberised 12 towers under the Clawback-19 project, laying 103km of fibre in rural areas
