NETWORK QUALITY AND CONNECTIVITY

Providing reliable, affordable and resilient connectivity is at the heart of our proposition as a business and is the basis upon which we can create greater impact through our digital solutions and ESG initiatives.

Through our Network Transformation Programme, we are widening coverage and improving network quality for customers in our markets while bridging the digital divide in remote, rural areas. This is accelerated by our adoption of Open Radio Access Network (RAN) technology, a critical enabler for the expansion of 4G and the introduction of 5G.

Outlook

Axiata will continue to migrate to cloud infrastructure, to be deployed in the network based on the requirements and terms of retail and enterprise applications. Cloud-based infrastructure network and 5G standalone (SA) allow greater exploration of new engagement models in network, IT and finance, eventually optimising existing assets, improving customer experience and achieving cost and operational excellence. This also enables us to securely meet growing data demands.

Increasing Our Network Coverage

In 2022, our OpCos enhanced the coverage and quality of 4G while reinforcing 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) for better performance, higher bandwidth, quicker response rates and improved efficiency. This led to an overall improvement in network experience across our business footprint.

Paving The Way With 5G, IoT And Smart Innovations

By unlocking faster connectivity and greater bandwidth at ultra-low latency, 5G promises to be an accelerator of digital inclusion across Asia.

In driving readiness for 5G across our operating markets, our OpCos have formed collaborations with manufacturers of network and IT equipment while partnering with universities and think tanks to drive awareness of the vast benefits of this technological leap. At the Group level, we are already implementing 5G SA or convergent core infra according to use cases, using a phased approach that will graduate from Mobile Broadband to industrial applications and the Metaverse.

Green 5G Catalyst Network Project by XL Axiata and Huawei Indonesia

XL Axiata partnered with Huawei Indonesia to demonstrate the effectiveness of the “Green 5G Catalyst Network” project concept, which explores autonomous networks and energy-efficient
technologies to deploy environmentally friendly 5G networks. The project garnered two awards at the TM Forum 2022 Catalyst Awards in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Network Simplification and Modernisation – Dialog’s Project Resilience

Facing a 70% fuel hike due to the currency crisis in Sri Lanka, Dialog formulated Project Resilience, an effort to simplify, transform and optimise its network. Through an accelerated 3G shutdown, the deployment of green energy, the rethinking of in-sourced operation and more, they ensured connectivity for their customers across Sri Lanka.
